BPPOM Finds Harmful Substances in Ramadhan Takjil Snacks in Rawamangun Market

The East Jakarta City administration and the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BBPOM) intensified inspections of takjil (light snacks break fast in Ramadhan) in the Rawamangun Market area.

This inspection was led by East Jakarta Economy and Development Assistant, Fauzi. He stated, around 25 joint personnel took and examined 19 samples of takjil.
He appreciated the BBPOM for collaborating with the East Jakarta City administration to ensure that the public does not consume hazardous food products.

Jakarta BBPOM Head, Sofiyani Chandrawati Anwar said the takjil examined included lontong, fried tofu, Chinese dates, kolak, putu mayang and yellow noodles.
"We found that yellow noodles and fried tofu contained formalin," she explained.
She added those noddles and tofu was immediately confiscated for further action.
"We educate the sellers to no longer sell dangerous food," she explained.
She uttered that further investigation would be conducted to find out the producers of the yellow noodles and tofu containing formalin.
"Business actors must continue to commit to selling safe food products for consumption," she stressed.
East Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP) Head, Taufik Yulianto added monitoring of agricultural, livestock and fishery food products continues to be intensified, including during Ramadhan.
"We ask producers and traders to comply with existing regulations, not to sell food products or materials that are harmful to health," he asserted.
He also reminded buyers or consumers to be careful and remain selective to avoid consuming dangerous food products.
"Don't just be tempted by cheap prices, but then also ignore quality," he closed.
