Governor Urges Pelindo's Support to Ease Tanjung Priok Traffic

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung urged PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Tanjung Priok to work together in addressing traffic congestion caused by truck queues, as he doesn't want to see the long traffic jams occur again.

"I ask Pelindo for its cooperation, so that horrific traffic jam does not happen again,"

"I ask Pelindo for its cooperation, so that horrific traffic jam does not happen again. We must handle this issue together and take preventive measures," he asserted at PT Pelindo, North Jakarta, Friday, (5/16).

Five Transjabodetabek Routes will Be Added to Tackle Traffic Congestion

Furthermore, Pramono also fully supports the proposal for integration of Cibitung-Cilincing Toll Roads, as it is seen to have a positive impact in reducing congestion, particularly in Tanjung Priok area.

"The Jakarta Government will provide full support because it will have a very positive impact, so that when trucks exit, they won't immediately go onto the arterial roads," he conveyed.

During this visit, he observed various facilities owned by PT Pelindo, including Tanjung Priok Port's operational control center.

President Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono explained that the congestion was due to poor operational planning at one of the terminals.

However, he added, Pelindo had taken corrective measures, including implementing a traffic control system based on planning and encouraging the use of terminal booking system to control truck arrivals to prevent queue buildup.

"But with that reality, we learned from the experience, and now at this terminal, traffic and control measures are being implemented," he asserted.

Later, each terminal will be required to report its activities thus any potential congestion can be mitigated, such as through coordination with relevant parties as the Port Authority (KSOP), local government, and the police.

For a long-term solution, Pelindo asked the city's support to integrate the Cibitung-Cilincing and Cikampek Toll Roads. This measure is expected to reduce traffic pressure on arterial roads, considering that about 60 percent of cargo trucks headed to Tanjung Priok come from the east.

"So, this toll road becomes extremely important and if the rates are more efficient, it will significantly improve conditions around Tanjung Priok," he said.
