Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that the opening of new Transjabodetabek routes will not reduce or disrupt the existing Transjakarta services within the city.
"It's not true that the opening of these routes reduces the routes within the city,"
This was stated in response to complaints that Transjakarta buses on existing routes have become increasingly smaller following the opening of new Transjabodetabek routes.
Pramono also asked Jakarta Transportation Agency head to ensure that the expansion of Transjabodetabek services doesn't interfere with services in Jakarta.
City Uses KLB Funds to Build Jakarta"It's not true that the opening of these routes reduces the routes within the city," stressed Pramono in Muara Angke, North Jakarta, on Thursday (6/12).
The opening of Transjabodetabek routes has received strong enthusiasm from the public, such as the PIK 2-Blok M route, which serves more than five thousand passengers.
"We initially designed it for a maximum of 2,000 passengers. But now the average is above 5,000. Even during the recent holiday period, it was over 6,000 passengers," he revealed.
Therefore, he welcomed the high public enthusiasm in using the new Transjabodetabek services. This indicate a shift from private vehicle use to public transportation.
In providing affordable and comfortable public transport services, the Jakarta Provincial Government allocates a subsidy of Rp11,500 per passenger for Transjabodetabek. Meanwhile, the normal fare for Transjabodetabek buses is Rp 15,000.
This subsidy amount, he added, also applies to all existing Transjabodetabek routes, including newly opened ones.
"So now, for each person, we provide a subsidy of Rp11,500, because the actual bus fare in Jabodetabek should be Rp15,000," he said.
Currently, the Jakarta Provincial Government is carefully preparing the expansion of Transjabodetabek routes to buffer zones around Jakarta, such as Bogor, Depok, South Tangerang, Bekasi, and even Cianjur.
This expansion is in response to the high demand from those areas to open public transport routes integrated with Jakarta.
"We are preparing more thoroughly for how this expansion can be done," he mentioned.
Regarding the use of public transportation, Pramono mentioned a request from the private sector to implement mandatory use of public transport every Wednesday. The proposal is currently under review.
"There's even a request from private sector now. Whether it's time for the private sector to also use public transport on Wednesdays. I'm currently reviewing that," he conveyed.
