Jakarta - Bekasi Discuss Cooperation on Water Supply and Waste Management

Jakarta Government and Bekasi City Government strengthen strategic cooperation in various sectors, especially in providing residents with mobility access, clean water, and waste management.

We would like to detail some collaborations

The statement above was conveyed by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung after he met with Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto at Jakarta City Hall yesterday.

"We would like to detail some collaborations," he expressed.

Regarding infrastructure provision for Bekasi residents, the two governments discussed plans to build two flyovers in Bekasi, namely in Kemang Pratama and Pasar Bantargebang. Pramono said, the construction of these two flyovers was to support people's mobility from Bekasi to Jakarta.

"We just discussed in more detail what Jakarta can contribute to Bekasi Government," he explained.

Another collaboration involved the provision of clean water from PAM Jaya to be distributed to Bekasi residents through Perumda Tirta Patriot. Pramono agreed to this cooperation considering Jakarta's larger clean water production capacity.

Aside that, they also agreed to promptly finalize the plan to extend the cooperation regarding waste management at Bantargebang Landfill.

"That landfill must be extended immediately, as it will be exhausted by 2026 between the Jakarta Government and the Bekasi City Government," he explained.

Bekasi Mayor, Tri Adhianto said, the collaboration between PAM Jaya and Perumda Tirta Patriot is important because the coverage of drinking water in Bekasi City only reaches 130,000 households out of a total population of 2.4 million.

In the future, additional raw water from PAM Jaya would be processed and distributed by Perumda Tirta Patriot to residents in the border area.

Regarding the flyover work in Bekasi, it aimed to facilitate the flow of residents' mobility to Jakarta and to smooth the movement of dump trucks.

"There is willingness from Jakarta Government to build two additional flyovers. This will make traffic smoother, allowing the waste to reach Bantargebang more quickly, thereby not posing health risks to residents," he explained.

Additionally, two apartment buildings will be constructed at Bekasi Station and Cakung Station, integrated with park and ride facilities and shopping areas. Regarding the extension of the cooperation for the use of Bantargebang Landfill, this cooperation pertains to waste management and utilization in accordance with the mandates of Presidential Regulation.

Waste could no longer be discarded carelessly; it should be processed. One way was through incineration to convert it into electricity.

"Because of Presidential Regulation Mandate and Minister's order of Environment and Forestry, the waste can't be disposed of just like that. It must go through an processing procedure," he said.
