Jakarta Supports Fathers Accompanying Children on First Day of School

The Jakarta Provincial Government is allowing flexibility for civil servants (ASN) who request leave to accompany their children on the first day of school, on Monday (7/14).

" ASNs who plan to accompany their children should request leave through the Mobile Attendance application,"

According to Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno, this policy is a form of support for the "Fathers Take Children to School on the First Day" movement launched by Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen).

Rano affirmed that the Jakarta Government supports the initiative through accountable and transparent mechanisms, in line with Circular Letter No. 7/2025 from Minister of Population and Family Development/National Population and Family Planning Agency (Mendukbangga/BKKBN).

"We fully support this program as a way to strengthen the parents' role in their children's education," he stated.

The first day of school, he added, is in accordance with the Jakarta Education Calendar set by the Decree of Head of Education Agency No. 89/2025.

The calender also outlines the School Orientation Period (MPLS), which begins on the same day. This provision applies to all educational levels, from elementary to senior high school.

Therefore, Rano advised ASNs who accompany their children to school to submit official leave requests.

This is due to internal regulations within the Jakarta Government, which require employees to adhere to strict working hours, which delays may impact performance-based allowances.

"There is a system that reduces performance allowance for ASN who are late for work. So, ASNs who plan to accompany their children should request leave through the Mobile Attendance application to avoid any deductions," he explained.
