Dharma Jaya Brings in 750 Imported Cattle for the Second Phase

Perumda Dharma Jaya has once again met its commitment to maintain food security and stability in Jakarta by importing 750 cattle from Australia in mid-July 2025.

The first batch of imported cattle has been sold

The arrival of hundreds of imported cattle is the second phase of the program to procure 5,000 imported cattle aimed to be completed by 2025. A total of 1,250 imported cattle are currently at Dharma Jaya fattening pens in Serang, Banten.

Perumda Dharma Jaya President Director, Raditya Endra Budiman said, the procurement of 750 imported cattle from Australia is part of the second phase of the cattle procurement program 2025.

Dharma Jaya Supports Cheap Food Bazaar for Price Stability

In the first stage, 500 cows had arrived earlier at the Serang fattening pen since early May. After undergoing the fattening process for three months, the cows are now ready for sale.

"They will undergo a fattening period of three to four months in a pen in Serang, before eventually being sold as live cattle," he expressed, Friday (7/25).

He explained, the types of cattle coming in this second stage consist of 711 head of feeder steer and bull, as well as 39 head of productive heifers. The feeder steer and bull types are cattle for sale as meat cattle after fattening.

As for the productive heifer will be developed as part of the Dharma Jaya cattle breeding program as a form of support for increasing local cattle populations. This is Dharma Jaya's commitment to help improve the cattle population in Indonesia.

"We care for our feeder steer and bull cattle well to increase their daily weight gain so that their selling price improves. As for the female cows, the productive heifers, will be raised and developed until four times their productive period," he explained.

He added, the first phase of 500 imported cattle that have been fattened, all of the feeder steer and bull types, have been sold. Meanwhile, the second phase of 750 cattle can also be ordered, although they are still awaiting the fattening process.

"The first batch of imported cattle has been sold. We have about 10 regular customers from the slaughtering house in Cakung, Serang, Bogor, and Sukabumi. Each customer can order up to 50 head per month. So, once the fattening process is complete, the cattle are shipped immediately because all have been ordered," he added.

Perumda Dharma Jaya Business Director, Irwan Nusyirwan asserted, cattle fattening is not just buying and selling, but optimizing the weight gain of cattle, increasing their market value, as well as creating jobs and boosting the local economy.

"This process involves purchasing livestock feed, employing workers to care for the cattle, and distributing the cattle. This creates a multiplier effect on the local economy around the fattening pen. So, the economy truly grows," he uttered.

He added, the third batch of imported cattle from Australia will arrive in Jakarta in early September, then immediately be taken to the fattening pen in Serang which has a capacity to hold up to 3,000 cattle.

"Those cattle were sent in stages to ensure the fattening process runs optimally and distribution to the market is more controlled. By so, we can ensure that beef stock is always available and stable," he said.
