Fire Engulfs Five Buildings in Kelapa Dua, No Casualties

A fire broke out on Tuesday morning in a homemade oncom production industry and four rented houses on the inspection road of Kali Pesanggrahan Timur, RT 06/06, Kelapa Dua Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk Sub-district.

West Jakarta Sub-agency Operation Section Head, Syarifudin said, fire report was received at 4:37 AM.

"We immediately deployed five fire engines and 25 firefighters to the scene," he expressed, Tuesday (8/5).

He explained, they managed to handle the fire in less than half an hour or at 4:58 AM.

"And then continued with cooling efforts and finished at 6:28 AM," he explained.

He mentioned, the fire that caused 18 people to lose their homes was allegedly caused by an electrical short circuit at a traditional oncom-making house.

"No casualties in the incident, yet the loss is estimated to reach hundreds of millions of rupiah," he explained.

One of the residents, Agus, explained that the fire started from an oncom business place that was left while shopping at the market, even though there was no cooking process occurring.

"We immediately contacted the fire sub-agency, and the officers arrived promptly to handle the situation. However, the spreading fire caused four neighboring houses to be engulfed in flames as well," he stated.
