Tidung Island Residents Receive Education on Nutrition and Food Safety

Thirty residents from Tidung Island Urban Village, South Thousand Islands Sub-district, were educated about healthy and safe food consumption.

Head of the Jakarta Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BBPOM) in Jakarta, Sofiyani Chandrawati Anwar, stated that this initiative is essential in the early prevention of stunting through healthy eating habits, safe food intake, and monitoring child development.

"This activity was attended by 30 participants, including teenagers, pregnant women, and mothers with toddlers," she said in a written statement on Friday (8/22).

Featuring speakers from BBPOM in Jakarta and Thousand Islands Health Sub-agency, this activity provided education on how to read processed food labels, checking products distibution permits via BPOM Mobile app, and tips for choosing safe supplements for pregnant women and toddlers.

"Participants also practiced the 'Isi Piringku' concept for balanced daily nutrition and were taught to avoid products with exaggeraated claims," she added.

During the session, participants actively asked questions about the safety of children's snacks, recommended foods for pregnant women, and how to use BPOM Mobile app to verify product permits.

"This enthusiasm shows that Tidung Island residents are deeply cared about family health and ready to play an active role in preventing stunting," she mentioned.

Sofiyani emphasized that BBPOM in Jakarta plays a vital role in ensuring that circulating processed food products are safe, high-quality, and benficial to the public.

"Let's prevent stunting together, starting from home by ensuring that the food we consume is safe, nutritious, and well-targeted," she said.

Thousand Islands Health Sub-agency's Public Health Section Head, Mery Aderita Romaulina added that stunting prevention requires cross-sector collaboration.

"Synergy between food and drug supervision and nutritional education is essential, thus residents can make wiser food choices," she explained.

Through collaboration with BBPOM in Jakarta, she hopes residents can apply safe food consumption and balanced nutrition daily.

"Hopefully this collaboration will strengthen public awareness that stunting prevention is a major investment to create a healthy and high-quality future generation," she shared.
