City Council Accelerates Jakarta Special Region Regional Regulation Discussion

Jakarta City Council Chairman, Khoirudin encouraged for accelerated discussion of 15 regional regulations (Perda) specifically for Jakarta, which are mandated by Law Number 2/2024 about the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ).

This regulation will serve as a legal basis for the delegation of authority from the central government to the Jakarta Provincial Government.

Khoirudin said that his side is still waiting for the draft and academic text to be discussed immediately at the Regional Regulation Formation Agency (Bapemperda).

"Two meetings by involving executive have been provided to prepare this," he said, Wednesday (9/10).

According to him, city council also prepare initiatives by collaborating with academics. Fifteen universities will be involved in drafting academic papers, each for one draft regional regulation.

"We will collaborate with 15 universities," he added.

He explained that the central government has given two years to finalize all of these special regional regulations. Therefore, the City Council will hold intensive discussions with a target completion in 2026.

As for information, Law Number 2/2024 gives Jakarta the authority to manage 15 government affairs that were previously under the central government.

These special authorities include public works and spatial planning, public housing and residential areas, investment, transportation, the environment, industry, tourism and the creative economy, trade, and education.

Moreover, it also includes health, culture, population control and family planning, population administration and civil registration, maritime affairs and fisheries, and employment.

With this authority, Jakarta is expected to optimize regional autonomy while strengthening Regional Original Income (PAD) after no longer holding the status of capital city.
