TB Simatupang Traffic Trial Helps Ease Congestion

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the traffic engineering trial on Jalan TB Simatupang, which began on Monday (9/15), has effectively reduced congestion.

The traffic engineering trial lasts for five days, from 5 PM to 8 PM.

On the first day of the trial, 474 vehicles passed through the engineered route at the Fatmawati 2 toll gate. This number increased on the second day by nearly 38 percent, reaching over 600 vehicles.

"Alhamdulillah, on the first day, around 474 vehicles passed through. Then on the second day, it rose by almost 38 percent to more than 600. This shows that congestion has eased during those times on site," shared Pramono at the South Monas Square, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (9/17).

However, Pramono said he will wait for the evaluation results of the trial over the next three days. If deemed effective, the traffic engineering will be implemented until the end of October.

"I will observe the next three days to see if this is running effectively. If it is effective, as I have mentioned, it will be implemented until the end of October," he asserted.

He also appreciated all personnel of Jakarta Transportation Agency who have managed traffic flow and provided public transportation facilities.

According to a survey by Time Out, Jakarta's public transportation infrastructure now ranks 17th among 50 cities surveyed worldwide.

"This is an extraordinary leap," he expressed.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo, mentioned that the increase in vehicles passing through the enginered route indicates an improvement in traffic performance. According to him, traffic performance improved by 3.63 percent on the second day of the trial.

"In terms of traffic performance, there was an improvement on the second day, increasing by 3.63 percent. This applies both the speed on Jalan RA Kartini and the queue at the Fatmawati and TB Simatupang intersections," he explained.

With this traffic scheme, Syafrin has set a target to cut traffic congestion by up to five percent. Even though progress so far is at 3.63 percent, he is optimistic that the full target will be reached.

"Performance improved by 3.63 percent as some traffic has diverted to the direct route, bypassing the area in front of Fatmawati Station," he noted.

He emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to intensify public outreach regarding the traffic engineering trial in the area.

"Besides, continuous evaluations will be conducted to ensure congestion is eased," he concluded.
