Pramono Highlights Need for Preventive Action on Microplastic Pollution

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized the importance of preventive measures the public can takae to reduce exposure to microplastic particles found in rainwater in Jakarta.

"...as an early preventive measure, residents should be prepared to wear masks,"

According to him, one way people can protect themselves is by wearing masks.

"I agree that as an early preventive measure, residents should be prepared to wear masks," Pramono said at the Health Ministry building on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Tuesday (10/28).

Residents Urged to Remain Calm About Microplastics

Pramono also noted the recent improvement in air quality over the past few days, coinciding with the Jakarta Running Festival (JRF) event.

Additionally, he reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating efforts to address plastic waste, including the development of Waste-to-Energy (PLTSa) project in Jakarta.

"As the Health Minister mentioned, we are moving quickly on matters related to plastic. We will soon realize projects like PLTSa," he stated.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin highlighted the dangers of microplastics, which can remain in the body for a long time if inhaled or ingested. For this reason, he urged residents to take precautions, one of which is wearing protective masks.

"My advice to the residents is to wear masks when walking outdoors, as it's one of the safest forms of protection," he conveyed.

Budi also stressed the importance of upstream mitigation by reducing the sources of microplastic pollution. According to him, the Jakarta Provincial Government plays a key role in reducing such pollution.
