Massive Cleanup Involves Thousands of Joint Personnel at Ria Rio Reservoir

Around 1,000 joint personnel took part in a massive cleanup at Ria Rio Reservoir area, Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta. This cleanup was led by Kodam Jaya Commander, Major General TNI Deddy Suryadi.

"...hopefully it can be felt by all layers of the community,"

This cleanup activity was conducted under the simultaneous program "Karya Bakti Serentak Bersih-Bersih Waduk/Sungai Jaga Jakarta" to celebrate Kodam Jaya's 76th anniversary. All 1,000 personnel joined a roll call before commencing the activity.

130 Joint Personnel Take Part in Clean Friday Action in Tambora

Kodam Jaya Commander (Pangdam), Major General TNI Deddy Suryadi, said the initiative follows up on activities carried out three months earlier, aiming to keep the environment clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing, particularly along riverbanks.

"We thank all elements of society. This is a noble and very beneficial activity, and hopefully it can be felt by all layers of the community," he said on Sunday (12/13).

Deddy noted that such activities help raise awareness and encourage the public to maintain safety and cleanliness around riverbanks, reservoirs, and other areas.

He hopes this activity can continue sustainably, especially given recent changes in the weather.

"This will be part of our challenge to protect the surrounding environment," he added.

Jakarta Regional Secretary’s Assistant for Governance, Sigit Wijatmoko, expressed gratitude and appreciation to Kodam Jaya and all components involved in today's cleanup.

"Thank you to Kodam Jaya and their ranks, as well as other components, for the synergy and joint work so far in protecting Jakarta," he shared.

According to him, the cleanup was chosen at the Ria Rio Reservoir area because it is a third-space location. The 27-hectare reservoir will be optimally utilized as part of flood control and as an educational interaction space for the community.

Sigit stated they remain open to feedback to strengthen partnerships and encourage greater public involvement in maintaining and revitalizing Jakarta’s spaces.

Sigit emphasized that they welcome suggestions to enhance collaboration, aiming to further activate public spaces across Jakarta and boost civic awareness in caring for the city.

For your information, this cleanup involved 1,000 joint personnel from Kodam Jaya, PPSU, Environment Sub-agency, Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency, Bina Marga Sub-agency, Park and Forestry Sub-agency, and other relevant elements. Community groups such as neighborhood associations, city councils, mass organizations, and others also participated in this activity.
