This initiative aims to shield the community

He stated that the entire haul of illegal drugs was confiscated during raids conducted across 10 sub-districts in East Jakarta.

"This initiative aims to shield the community from the dangers of abusing potent drugs and illegal narcotics," he remarked, Monday (12/15).

He detailed that the destroyed substances included Amitriptyline, Haloperidol, Tramadol, Trihexyphenidyl, Chlorpromazine, and Dextromethorphan.

His administration is committed to continuing raids on establishments selling illegal drugs, as these substances are prone to misuse and pose a threat to public health.

"I also urge residents to refrain from consuming medication without a doctor's prescription, as it can have detrimental effects on both physical and mental health," he added.

Meanwhile, Ciracas Sub-district Head, Panangaran Ritonga, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all parties who supported the enforcement and destruction efforts.

"These G-list (restricted) drugs should strictly be sold in pharmacies with a doctor's prescription, yet they are circulating freely in the community; hence, we are destroying them today," he stated.

In the meantime, an investigator from the East Jakarta National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Muhammad Zulmanah, commended the move to destroy these illicit drugs. He noted, the circulation of illegal potent drugs often serves as a gateway to narcotics abuse.

"Drugs such as Tramadol and the like are particularly prone to consumption by teenagers," he emphasized.

He called upon store owners, particularly those running drug and cosmetic shops, to cease selling drugs without distribution permits, as it constitutes a violation of regulations.

"Legally, enforcement authority rests with the police and Health Ministry, as the circulation of illegal potent drugs is regulated under the Health Law," he concluded.
