The Jakarta Provincial Government and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), discussed potential disasters and the necessary anticipatory measures.

To coordinate on potential disasters in Jakarta

Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head, Marulli Sijabat, stated disaster mitigation efforts were the central topic of discussion during Deputy Governor Rano Karno's meeting with BMKG Head, Teuku Faisal Fathani on Thursday (12/18).

"Deputy Governor was received today and held direct discussions with the Head of BMKG. This aims to coordinate on potential disasters in Jakarta," he explained.

According to him, this discussion is vital to map out Jakarta's disaster risks and execute the required early precautionary steps.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the early warning system implemented by BMKG and the possibility of its adoption by the Jakarta government.

"The outcomes of today's meeting will be advanced through technical meetings. The ultimate objective is to formalize a collaborative framework aimed at anticipating disaster incidents across the Jakarta region," he explained.

He went on to say that the Jakarta government and BMKG have long collaborated on disaster mitigation measures, including coordinating early warnings to deploy Weather Modification Operations (OMC) during periods of heavy rainfall.

"Future collaboration may extend to other areas, such as early detection for seismic activity and high waves. It will also include the dissemination of disaster-related information to the community," he stated.
