West Jakarta SDA Ramps Up Flood Mitigation Efforts

Anticipating potential extreme weather at the beginning of 2026, the West Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency has intensified its flood prevention efforts by optimizing water pump systems and drainage networks across the region.

"A total of 52 stationary pumps at 48 pump stations are ready to operate,"

This measure was taken following weather forecasts predicting increased heavy rainfall in West Jakarta, which may cause flooding if not properly addressed.

Coastal Residents in Jakarta Urged to Be Alert for Tidal Flooding

West Jakarta SDA Sub-agency Head, Purwanti Suryandari, said that all stationary water pumps across the area will be operated at full capacity to help manage water levels during heavy rain.

"To face eary-year rains, we're ensuring all pumps are working optimally as a flood prevention measure," she asserted, Saturday (1/3).

She also mentioned that mobile pumps have been placed on standby at flood-prone locations to enable quick deployment when water levels rise suddenly.

"A total of 52 stationary pumps at 48 pump stations are ready to operate when water levels increase," she explained.

To further prepare for possible flooding, especially during the first two days of 2026, West Jakarta SDA has also deployed 70 mobile pumps and 60 floating pumps at high-risk flood points.

"We'll remain on standby 24/7 and are ready to respond to public reports of flooding or potential flood threats, especially during prolonged rain," she added.

Purwanti confirmed that the drainage improvement projects undertaken at the end of 2025 are done as planned. These new systems should help speed up water flow and reduce flooding risks in key flood-prone areas.

"Thankfully, all drainage work has been completed. We hope these efforts will reduce flood risks in vulnerable areas," she stated.
