Ahok Suggested to Build Demonstration Special Location

The Jakarta Administration was requested to build a location special for citizens who want to hold demonstration immediately. It is purposed to avoid citizens get aggrieved due to the action.

Chief of Jakarta City Police, Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian stated freedom of expressing an opinion is a right of each citizen and regulated on the 1945 Constitution. But there are rules that must be obeyed, including not doing adverse demonstration or disturbing others' interest. 

"We suggest Jakarta Governor to provide location special for demonstration," said Karnavian, after he met with Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama, at City Police's Meeting Hall, Wednesday (7/29).

He told, such location had been built in developed countries such as England, Singapore, United States. "In Jakarta, it's like in Silang Monas, or in front of MPR and DPR buildings. So it's not on road, as it can disrupt road users like on HI Roundabout," he disclosed. 

If the special location is provided, he continued, we only need to build security post. "So, police side is also focused on guarding the action. It is for media center as well, so reporters also can get information easier," he told. 

As the legal foundation, he suggested that the governor creates the Gubernatorial Regulation. "Creates the regulations, demonstration is only allowed to be conducted in special location that has been determined," he closed.
