Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” T Purnama proposed that corruptor must be impoverished. It is deemed more effective than the death penalty.

“This is my discourse. Every corruptor and its family must be impoverished. People are more afraid of losing money than dead,” he said, at City Hall, Thursday (8/6).
Ahok cited that the death penalty against drugs dealer which does not give effect. Because its existence is fairly rampant and freed from the law because hiring a reliable lawyer.

He also wants any clemency and detention period cutting against corruptor must be abolished.
“Impoverish them all, no more clemency and detention period cutting,” he asserted.
In a bid to avoid getting continuous remission, they are also prohibited to move the prison. "This mode is just to get remission. And then move again and free but still rich," he described.
The death penalty for corruptor is indeed possible. It is stipulated in Article 2 paragraph (2) of Corruption Act. Yet, the article regulates the penalty can only be imposed if someone does corruption when the country is in danger, national disaster, economic crisis, and monetary, or if the case is repeated.
