City Optimistic to Decrease Poverty Number

Jakarta Vice Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat optimistic that City Administration can decrease the poverty level into three percent in 2016.

For national scale, the poverty level in Jakarta is the lowest one, under 5 percent

Relaying on City Statistics Agency's (BPS) data, the number of poor people in capital amounted 352,960 people or 3.55 percent over past two years in March 2013 and it decreased in September 2013 into 371,700 people or 3.72 percent.

Moreover, the poverty level in capital increased to 3.92 percent or 393,980 people and grew up to 412,790 people or 4.09 percent and decreased by 0.56 percent in 2015.

For national scale, the poverty level in Jakarta is the lowest one, under 5 percent,” he said in the sideline of regional working meeting (rakerda) for poverty handling at City Hall, Thursday (8/6).

Djarot admitted that poverty in capital has different character with other regions.

“Poverty handling in Jakarta is more difficult than other regions. Poor people in Jakarta tends to nomadic,” he added.

The former of Blitar Mayor stated, the poverty pockets in capital are spread around densely populated area which brawl and criminal act often occurred.
