Basuki Optimistic Flood in Jakarta Decreased

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T. Purnama (Ahok), optimistic the flood in the capital will reduce. It is because several flood handling works have been done such as reservoir dredging, connecting channel dredging, and river normalization. He also believes the middle stream is free of flood.

The middle stream is done, now we working on east and west stream

"The middle stream is done, now we working on east and west stream," he said, Wednesday (9/30).

If the flood still hit the area, it will not be long because the channel has been dredged.

"We also can buy land in Marunda and Tunjungan to solve the flood," he added.

He admitted there is still problem in South Jakarta since the absorption area has malfunctioned and yet solved.

"Flood in Kemang will still hit the area. Many of the housing wall stand above the river. Don't blame us, blame yourself for constructing house above the river," he uttered.

He asked the Jakartans to support the Jakarta Provincial Government flood handling program. Besides preparing flat for river normalization project, his side also prepares pump.

"The pump will flow the water directly into the sea," he disclosed.
