Fish Cultivation with Cages Keeps Being Finalized

Fish cultivation program using keramba (fish cages) will be imposed in Seribu Islands. For the beginning step, the cages will be built in a 1-hectare area next year.

"Jakarta Provincial Government provides the nets and seeds. As for the cultivation, is conducted by the local fishermen guided by Jakarta Marine, Agriculture, and Food Security Department," said Head of Technical Management Unit of Sea Cultivation and Conservation Center for KPKP Department, Una Rusmana, Wednesday (10/21).

Seribu Islands Fishermen Given 100 Seeds of Kakap Fish

Eventually, Rusmana told, the cultivation result is shared 80 percent for fishermen and 20 percent for the government.

"We're still counting the budget. The fish types cultivated are also still being reviewed," he disclosed.

He added that overall there are about 250 hectares sea areas in Seribu Islands that worth to be used as cultivation location. But as a trial, the area used is only 1 hectare.

"Technically, it will be discussed with the regency the start point. So that it will be combined tourism," he uttered.
