Election Day, Public Services still Open

In accordance to General Election Commission Regulation (PKPU) No. 26/2013 on Polling and Votes Counting at polling stations (TPS) in the 2014 legislative election, all government and private institutions are dismissed from work. However, Jakarta Provincial Government ensures that public services will remain open, including health services.

All employees in Jakarta, both PNS and PTT, will be dismissed tomorrow. They are welcome to vote in their domicile

Head of Jakarta Personnel Board (BKD), I Made Karmayoga, said that based on that PKPU, all civil servants (PNS) in total of 72,565 people are dismissed to be able to use their voting rights. That amount includes temporary employees (PPT) of 2,029 people. “All employees in Jakarta, both PNS and PTT, will be dismissed tomorrow. They are welcome to vote in their domicile,” he stated at City Hall, Tuesday (4/8).

However, Karmayoga continued, this day off does not apply to employees who work in service sectors, such as Fire and Disaster Handling Department officers, Satpol PP personnel, as well as medical officers in general hospitals (RSUD) and community health centers (puskesmas), because they will still serve the residents. “Public services will cannot stop. Working hours of those officers will be arranged in shifts so they can still cast their votes. But, they should coordinate with their RT domicile,” he uttered.

75 Percent of Citizens Targeted to Use Vote Right

Karmayoga urged civil servants to use their voting rights and not abstain in the democratic party this year. And in accordance to the direction of Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, civil servants in Jakarta must be neutral. “We encourage them to use their voting rights. Do not abstain. There is no specific directives to choose certain person, because this election is LUBER (direct, general, free, secret),” he finished.
