Green Mussel Cultivation Proposed to Switch to Fishery

The green mussel cultivation on the shoreline north of Jakarta is deemed dangerous enough. After being tested, it contains heavy metals weighing 10-20 times as much from ideal raw standard.

"This green mussel is very dangerous due to containing heavy metals, thus we want them switching to saltwater fish farming," expressed Liliek Litasari, Head of Fishery Section for Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Dept, Wednesday (6/1).

According to him, almost 70 percent of residents cultivate green mussels still want to move in the fishery field. Therefore, they are transferred to fish farming in the islands that are considered the most likely.

"In the sea, green mussels cannot be cultivated, because the ecosystem is between the rivers and the sea, that's why we encourage them to fish farming such as grouper, snapper and pomfret," he stated.

At this time, she continued, there are 10 thousand people engaged in green mussel cultivation on the shoreline north of Jakarta. It is planned the initial arrangement would be done for such mussels.
