South Jakarta to Enforce Ramadan Rules in Nightlife Hubs

The South Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-agency (Parekraf) is stepping up its monitoring of nightlife establishments throughout Ramadan.

South Jakarta Parekraf Sub-agency Head, Jonie Paulus Rumimper stated that these inspections are vital to maintain public order and ensure a safe, tranquil environment for the Muslim community observing the fast.

According to official data, South Jakarta is home to more than 300 nightlife venues, which remain among the city's largest tax contributors within the tourism sector.

"We have joined a task force led by the Jakarta Satpol PP (Public Order Agency) and other related agencies to conduct joint inspections across various entertainment hubs during Ramadan," he expressed, Wednesday (2/25).

His party is also providing guidance to tourism operators regarding operational hours during Ramadan, as mandated by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-agency Circular Letter No. e-0001/2026.

Under the regulation, nightclubs, discotheques, saunas, massage parlors, adult gaming centers, and bars are required to shut down from the eve of Ramadan until the day following the second day of Idulfitri.

However, certain exceptions apply. Establishments located within four- and five-star hotels or designated commercial zones may remain operational, provided they are not in close proximity to residential areas, houses of worship, schools, or hospitals.

"To ensure full compliance, we have posted 'Open' or 'Closed' stickers on these tourism businesses according to the applicable regulations," Jonie explained.

Jonie explained that each oversight squad consists of 15 personnel, comprising members of Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police, and related local government agencies.

"To date, we have not found any violations of the established operational regulations for entertainment venues," he revealed.

He hoped that business owners and the general public will continue to foster mutual respect throughout the holy month. By doing so, he believes South Jakarta will remain peaceful, allowing the community to observe their worship with solemnity and comfort.
