Through its Performing Arts Center Management Unit, the Jakarta Cultural Agency proudly presents the return of regular Wayang Orang Bharata performances, offering the public complimentary access to this cultural heritage.
Wayang Orang Bharata is a form of cultural heritage that has endured in Jakarta for over 50 years
The ‘Petruk Dadi Dalang’ production was held at the Wayang Orang Bharata Arts Center, Senen. This event is the fourth scheduled showcase for 2026, presented through a joint initiative between the Jakarta Cultural Agency and the Wayang Orang Bharata Troupe
"This performance drew a full house of 252 spectators, reaching the venue’s maximum seating capacity. Wayang Orang Bharata is a form of cultural heritage that has endured in Jakarta for over 50 years," stated Arts and Culture Performance Building Management Unit (UP GPSB) Head, Rinaldi, Friday (12/6).
Rano Highlights the Importance of Wayang as Cultural HeritageHe stated that there is currently a significant upward trend in the performing arts sector. This phenomenon is reflected in the high level of communal enthusiasm for the ‘Petruk Dadi Dalang’ showcase.
Notably, this production featured the trial of an integrated booking system, distinct from the protocols used in prior performances. This development constitutes a major milestone for the patrons of Wayang Orang Bharata.
"The transition to a digital booking platform serves to address the community's concerns over the challenges of obtaining tickets for these high-demand productions," he remarked.
Data from the UP GPSB’s integrated booking system revealed that the platform recorded 8,088 interactions from the launch of ticket sales on June 4, 2026, through to the staging on June 6.
This, he remarked, is a testament to the extraordinary public enthusiasm, especially considering the Wayang Orang Bharata Arts Building accommodates a maximum of only 252 attendees.
"Enthusiasm for Wayang Orang Bharata has been overwhelming, as evidenced by the 8,088 users who engaged with our ticketing site. These users span various age ranges, yet the majority represent the younger generation," he noted.
Rinaldi conveyed that this high level of interest reflects the enduring relevance of traditional arts in a modern urban context. More than mere entertainment, these performances serve as a medium for learning and cultural heritage conservation, reinforcing Jakarta’s identity as a multicultural hub.
"While we are grateful for the remarkable interest, it meant that not every seat request could be fulfilled. To meet this demand, ten complimentary Wayang Orang Bharata showcases are planned for 2026," he stated.
Looking ahead to next weekend, UP GPSB will once again implement its integrated ticketing system for the routine staging of Sandiwara Sunda Miss Tjitjih 1928. The performance, titled ‘Nyai Dasimah,’ specifically honors Jakarta’s 499th anniversary and will be held at the Miss Tjitjih Arts Building, Kemayoran on Saturday (6/13).
"Technology must be leveraged to sustain arts and culture, allowing traditional showcases to be meticulously maintained without losing their original weight or underlying philosophy," he emphasized.
