South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo has urged district and urban village heads to strengthen efforts to create a healthy environment by increasing surveillance of rabies-transmitting animals (HPR) in their respective areas.
Widely disseminated to the public
Syafrin said district and urban village heads need to provide assistance to the community so that the animal husbandry program implemented by the Jakarta Provincial Government can run more optimally, both in terms of implementation and the results achieved.
South Jakarta KPKP Vaccinated 1,454 Pets in June 2026"An animal care program is currently underway in South Jakarta. I request that this program be widely disseminated to the public," he said.
Syafrin explained that in addition to strengthening socialization, public education regarding the importance of maintaining the health of pets also needs to be improved.
"As part of efforts to prevent the spread of rabies," he explained.
Meanwhile, Head of Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Agency, Hasudungan Sidabalok, confirmed that his party routinely carries out free rabies vaccinations through door-to-door services and posts opened at RPTRAs and community halls.
"The vaccination target in South Jakarta is around 10,000 animals that transmit rabies, such as dogs, cats, monkeys and civets," he stated.
Hasudungan said that Jakarta is the first province in Indonesia to strictly prohibit the slaughter and sale of dog and cat meat for consumption because these two types of animals are not food commodities.
"For this policy, the Governor received an international award in the field of animal welfare. Let's continue to collaborate to create a healthy environment for both animals and their owners," he appealed.
