South Jakarta Brings Papua Theme as Its Flona Booth

The South Jakarta City Administration features a Papua-themed booth at the Flora and Fauna (Flona) exhibition at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta. The booth aims to encourage the public to learn more about the customs, as well as the natural and cultural diversity, of Papua.

South Jakarta Mayor, Syafrin Liputo said the South Jakarta booth features the theme "Papua – The Pristine Sahul Frontier." This concept evokes the essence of Papua through a natural atmosphere and various cultural elements that are engaging for visitors to explore.

According to him, Papua represents the final expanse of Sahul, an ancient landscape that bears witness to the geological connection between the Sahul landmass and a wealth of biodiversity that has evolved over millions of years.
Papua boasts pristine tropical rainforests, mist-shrouded mountains, and clear rivers, alongside natural wetlands and coastal areas. These features create a mosaic of ecosystems that serve as habitats for a diverse range of endemic flora and fauna.
"The natural beauty of Papua lies not only in its majestic landscapes but also in the harmonious balance between nature and the indigenous communities who have preserved this heritage for generations," he added.
As a gateway to the pristine Sahul region, Syafrin notes that Papua offers an authentic wilderness experience. At the same time, it reminds people of the importance of preserving biodiversity for future generations.
