Formalined Food Detected in Three Markets

South Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-dept did food examination in five traditional markets in South Jakarta. The officer took 297 samples where seven of them were positively containing formalin and pesticide.

South Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-dept Head, Kristrisasi Helenandari disclosed that the five traditional markets are Manggis, Rumput, Menteng Pulo, Karet Belakang and Karet Pedurenan.

He mentioned, those foods that containing formalin are kolang kaling (fruit of the sugar palm) and salted fish (five samples) at Karet Belakang Market, tuna fish (1 sample) at Menteng Pulo Market and tembang layang fish (1 sample) at Karet Pedurenan Market.

"We also found two samples of tomato containing pesticide at Menteng Pulo Market," he continued.

He added, food supervision in such markets is the third phase. The peddlers who are caught selling formalined food more than once would be sanctioned from each market.
