Littering, 30 Resident' KTPs Confiscated

The irresponsible littering act on Jalan Raya Cilincing, Cilincing Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-District, North Jakarta, is now no longer tolerated. For residents who are caught throwing trash carelessly, their identity card (KTP) will be confiscated by local urban village officials. This policy has been applied since April and there have been dozens of residents netted.

This disciplinary action is imposed because the officers are already exhausted to overcome the garbage pileups that the residents discarded at 3 points, namely in front of gas station in RW 01, in front of Plaza Cilincing RW 08, and in front of Pasar Pagi in RW 04.

Cilincing Urban Village head, Joddy Santoso said that to solve the garbage problem, he has disseminated about this policy beforehand. Around the littering sites, there have been ban littering banners. However, the ban only applies from 06.00 AM until 06.00 PM. After that time, he gives tolerance to waste in there since before dawn the garbage has been directly transported by officers.

"They, who are stubborn, will be given a sanction. Throughout last April, we have caught 30 people," he said, Saturday (5/3).

Santoso admitted that the KTP of the caught persons were immediately detained and then recorded. Furthermore, after promising not to repeat the littering, their KTP were returned and they were given guidance to no longer throwing their garbage at the sites.

"Most of them are not our residents, they are from Kalibaru and Semper Timur. After being recorded, we tell them to bring back the trash, but if they caught again, we will give  more assertive sanction," he stated.
