Teacher Harassed Student, Saint Monica Playgroup Closed

North Jakarta Secondary Education Sub-Department officially closes Saint Monica Playgroup in Sunter Agung, North Jakarta, Wednesday (5/14). This closing without a time limit is the aftermath of alleged sexual abuse case committed by a teacher to her student.

As reported before, a toddler initialed L, student of Saint Monica Playgroup, became a victim of sexual abuse done by his extracurricular dance teacher, S. The boy’s anus was pricked by the teacher’s finger. This case then proceeded to North Jakarta Metro Resort Police.

From this sexual abuse report, it was disclosed that Saint Monica Playgroup does not have permit to hold a playgroup from North Jakarta Secondary Education Sub-Department. The teaching and learning activities in the playgroup can be continued if the school party obtained the required permit.

Interaction between Teachers and Students Must Be Improved

We have checked the institution’s permit, and the principal has admitted that they do not have one. In accordance to Head of Jakarta Education Department’s instruction, if they do not have the permit, we will close it temporarily. We just told it in verbal, the letter will be given tomorrow. Regarding the law, it is police’s authority,” stated Head of North Jakarta Secondary Education Sub-Department, Mustafa Kemal.

According to Kemal, there are at least 20 question instruments that must be filled in processing permit. Among those questions related to the curriculum and teacher’s qualification. To anticipate the same incident from happening in other schools, North Jakarta Secondary Education Sub-Department will form a special team to monitor schools’ permits.
