We have yet to control the vendors in Kramatjati and Jatinegara areas, because there must be a solution before raid in accordance with governor instruction. The relocation places are being searched for vendors and then would be used as built landscapes (Lokbin)
Ahead of the fasting month, the existence of the street vendors keeps spreading in every corner of the city. Therefore, Jakarta Satpol PP plans to conduct a raid in street vendor-prone areas. The raid is in accordance with the bylaw No.8/2007 on public order.
Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Kukuh Hadi Santoso disclosed that the initial sweeping will involve 6,500 personnel. "We'll do the raid in street vendor-prone areas," he told, Friday (5/16).
Some Bridges in West Jakarta Crowded by Street VendorsBesides causing chaos, he said, the vendors also cause traffic congestion. Moreover, the people are usually crowding the shopping centers ahead of the fasting month, like Pasar Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. Today, his side conducts sweeping in Tanah Abang, considering vendors have got kiosks at Tanah Abang G Market.
"We did a sweeping in Tanah Abang three times and just found vendors selling on Jalan Jatibaru X. This is not our authority, but market caretaker. If our assistance is needed, we will control them," he told.
Additionally, the raid is also focused on Jatinegara and Kramatjati areas, East Jakarta. Because of the East Jakarta Administration is still looking for relocation place for vendors, his side has not been able to take a decisive act.
"We have not controlled the vendors in Kramatjati and Jatinegara areas, because there must be a solution before raid process in accordance with governor instruction. The relocation place is currently being searched for vendors and then would be used as built landscapes (Lokbin)," he told.
