SMA 18 Warakas Building Heavily Damaged

The condition of SMA (senior high school) 18 building on Jalan Warakas 1, Tanjung Priok Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-district, North Jakarta, is damaged heavily. Almost all rooftop frameworks’ woods on west and east side of the building are rotten. Even, the 5 meters east side canopies of the building are collapsed.

The 3,000 meters wide building of SMA 18 which established since 1993 is placing 5,000 square meters area. The building consists of 3 U shaped stories, with 21 of total rooms. But since it was established, it only repaired once in 2008.

As a result, almost all rooftop frameworks are rotten. As many as 2 classrooms on 3rd floor east side are leaked when rain comes because it rooftops are rotten. Moreover, the study process of those two classrooms on the 3rd floor, 11th IPA (Science) 2 and 10th IPS (Social) 4 are often moved. The leakage from the 3rd floor perks into the classrooms of 12th IPA (Science) 1 and 2 on the 2nd floor so that the study and teaching process (KBM) in those classes were disturbed.

SMA 18 Infrastructure and Utilities vice Headmaster, Ade Wahyudi said, his side had proposed for heavy renovation seven times. "There is still no respond yet. We concern with students' safety much," said Wahyudi, Friday (5/16).

Related of this matter, North Jakarta secondary Education (Dikmen) Sub-Department Head, Mustafa Kemal confessed, he has reviewed the location. From his observation, the school is needed to take heavy rehab.

“But it must be assessed by consultant. At least it needs heavy rehab,” he stated.

According to him, there will be 5 schools in North Jakarta to be renovated this year. Those are SMA 115 Tanjung Priok, SMA 114 Cilincing, SMA 15 Pademangan, and SMA 72 Kelapa Gading.

“We plan to rehab SMA 18 next year. Because we are afraid if we put it into this year’s additional budget cost (ABT), we will be late,” he explained.
