Basuki Can Choose City Secretary

Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama, has full authority and has no limit as mandated by Presidential Decree No. 52/P of 2014. Eventually, Basuki also can choose his Regional Secretary of DKI Jakarta Province.

"There are no limits, he can choose City Secretary also," said Didik Suprayitno, spokesman for the Home Affairs Ministry, at the Governor Joko Widodo’s home office on Jalan Taman Suropati, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Sunday (6/1).

Nevertheless, Basuki cannot arbitrarily choosing the City Secretary since he has to obtain approval from the Minister of the Internal affairs, first. "The inauguration of the echelon I is the authority of the president and must be approved by the minister of internal affairs first," Supriyatno stated.

Supriyatno admitted that the Minister of Internal Affairs has received the names of three candidates for City Secretary which is still being processed. "I do not know the names of candidates for the secretary position that have been proposed. Obviously it is being in the process," he said.

He also added, as mandated by Presidential Decree No. 52/P of 2014, Jokowi is officially off as the Jakarta Governor for following the presidential elections in 2014, which carried the party's coalition of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.

Jokowi is estimated to be off as Jakarta governor until August 22 to 24 , 2014. "But, if there is a sue to the Constitutional Court, the Mr. Jokowi’s non-active period will be extended until October," Supriyatno said.
