Flood Garbage in Jakarta Reached 1,472 Cubic Meters

Jakarta Environment Dept. recorded, along February 19-22, 2017, garbage volume left by flood and inundation in the capital has reached 1,472 cubic meters.

Garbage itself is picked up by freelancer from rivers, connecting channels, lakes and reservoirs.

Officer Must Help Residents to Clean Environment After Floods

Jakarta Environment Dept.'s Water Agency Head, Junjungan Sihombing disclosed his side could transport garbage about 200 cubic meters per day.

"If it's compared to normal condition, there is an increase. It happens when floods recede," he stated, Thursday (2/23).

He mentions, on February 19, garbage volume is reaching 366 cubic meters, February 20 with 288 cubic meters, February 21 with 352 cubic meters and February 22 with 466 cubic meters.

"Totally, from February 19-22, garbage in the water reaches 1,472 cubic meters," he said.

The rising garbage volume is spotted in Manggarai Sluice Gate, Season City Sluice Gate and East Flood Canal (KBT).

"Because of high rainfall, our fleet and officer until now still tries to transport garbage from the water," he finished.
