The city's monorail project which its construction is still delay, seems to get competitor named Light Rapid Transit (LRT). Jakarta Acting Governor Basuki T. Purnama admitted had received suggest to change the monorail with LRT during his meeting with PT MRT and PT Pembangunan Jaya.

The meeting was aimed to discuss plan of monorail lane construction in all Jakarta areas, but the building management, who also attended the meeting, asked us to use LRT

"The meeting was aimed to discuss plan of monorail lane construction in all Jakarta areas, but the building management, who also attended the meeting, asked us to use LRT. Similar transport is also used in Kuala Lumpur," said Basuki, at City Hall, Thursday (6/6).

Basuki directly responded the suggestion by asking related management calculating construction budget. However, Basuki has requirement before constructing the project. That is giving air right as property development in public space.

LRT has smaller capacity compared to usual train. Its construction will use the private budget.

"We already met the private. We give them the air right and they give us money for project construction," he added.

Basuki assessed that LRT is more economic and flexible. It also has excellence flexibility maneuver and can stop on short lanes.

If the construction  of LRT is implemented, Basuki will connect LRT with residential, office buildings, shopping centers and airport.

Meanwhile, the LRT ticket price is Rp 20 thousand per day, or Rp 500 thousand per month as subscribe passengers.
