38 ERP Gates Constructed in Sudirman-Kota Corridors

Sooner or later, Jakarta Provincial Government is going to implement electronic road pricing (ERP) in the capital. There will be at least 38 new gates for one route and will be used to detect the passing vehicles at ERP corridor.
We deliberately build the gate in certain places thus all vehicles can be detected, especially in small roads
Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Muhammad Akbar expressed those gates will be built along Jalan Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, until Kota, or vice versa. From Jalan Sudirman towards Kota, there would be 18 gates, while 20 other gates from Kota towards Jalan Sudirman.
"We deliberately build the gate in certain places thus all vehicles can be detected, especially in small roads," he disclosed, at City Hall, Monday (6/9).
City Reviews ERP Implementation on Jalan Gatot SubrotoHe cited one of gates will be built in between Ratu Plaza towards Pintu 1 Senayan. Thus, the motorists who are outside the office of the Education Ministry will charge the ERP at the next gate. This policy is expected to effectively detect the passing vehicles in such roads.
"For instance, Jalan Sudirman from Ratu Plaza until Pintu 1 Senayan has one gate. Then the next gate is after the first gate. Perhaps, motorist must pay at the next gate. It's like hotel visitors who are already there, they will also be charged the ERP if they exit. Because they were already inside, and if they exit, its debit would be cut," he described.
The ERP tariff is fluctuating
. It will be adjusted to the vehicle volume. As planned, its price will be set between Rp 20,000-Rp 40,000 for a single pass or per two hours. However, the amount will be evaluated every month. Through ERP system, the speed of vehicles in the corridor could reach 30-40 kilometers per hour. If the vehicle volume is still dense, the price will be increased by Rp 2,000. "We evaluate the tariff. If traffic is still dense, the tariff will be increased," he explained. But if the vehicle speed reaches 50 kilometers per hour, the tariff will decrease. Thus, the roads around ERP track is not redundant and can be used by people. "That means the traffic is deserted with vehicle, thus the road is wide and tariff will be dynamic," he said.
The ERP gate would also be implemented in Kuningan-Ragunan corridors. Its amount will be higher than Jalan Sudirman-Kota. For Jalan Sudirman-Kota, the trial will be conducted by company as ERP investor, in the upcoming July. While in Jalan Rasuna Said, will be managed by Norwegian company, Q-Free.
