Sewers Clogged, 19 Locations Inundated

Heavy rain that poured the capital city all day on Sunday (6/15) left 19 locations inundated. The condition is worsened with trashes clogging the sewers, thus water cannot flow optimally.

We ask for cooperation from the residents not to throw trash haphazardly into the sewers because it can clog water flows and cause inundation when rain pours

Here are the 19 locations inundated, as quoted from Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) data:

Puddle on Jalan Raya Kalibaru Barat Not Yet Receded

- Jalan DI Panjaitan (10-20 centimeters)

- Jalan MT Haryono (20-30 centimeters)

- Jalan Condet Raya (30-40 centimeters)

- Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah (10-15 centimeters)

- Jalan Pisangan Lama (10-20 centimeters)

- Jalan Raya Fatmawati (10-30 centimeters)

- Jalan Tomang Raya (5-10 centimeters)

- Jalan Menteng Dalam (20-25 centimeters)

- Jalan H Ipin ondok Labu (10-50 centimeters)

- Jalan Kemang Timur 5 (10-30 centimeters)

- Jalan RC Veteran (10-20 centimeters)

- Jalan Melinjo RT 06/05 (10-40 centimeters)

- Jalan Raya Antasari Cipete (10-20 centimeters)

- Jalan Raya Kembangan Utara in front of SDN 02 (10-20 centimeters)

- Jalan Raya Pancoran towards Pasar Minggu and vice versa (10 centimeters)

- Jalan Raya Moch Kahfi, precisely at Warung Silah junction (10-30 centimeters)

- In front of Tanjung Barat Station (10-20 centimeters)

- In front of WTC Mangga Dua (10-30 centimeters)

- Around BKPM TransJakarta Bus Stop on Jalan Kav Polri Ragunan (40-50 centimeters)

Head of Jakarta Public Works Department, Manggas Rudy Siahaan, admitted that the inundations happened because the sewers were clogged, thus water cannot flow optimally. But after Jakarta Public Works Department Flood Taskforce cleaned up the drains, the inundations receded.

We ask for cooperation from the residents not to throw trash haphazardly into the sewers because it can clog water flows and cause inundation when rain pours,” he uttered, Monday (6/16).

Moreover, Siahaan also told that another factor causing inundation is utility installation that does not comply with the rules. According to the rules, utilities such as PLN, Telkom, fiber optic cables as well as PAM water pipes must be installed to a depth of 1.1 meters. However, many of them were installed only about 20-50 centimeters deep, thus blocking the waterway as well.

Therefore, Public Works Department Flood Taskforce is always conducting patrol when rain pours, so inundation can be handled quick and traffic congestion can prevented early.

“The taskforce keeps doing patrol when rain pours to look for inundation and handle it quick,” he stated.
