Ahead the holy month of Ramadan, the broiler chicken price in some traditional markets is increasing. It is now sold Rp 30.000 from Rp 25.000 for one chicken. Meanwhile the chicken meat is now Rp 24.000 per kilogram from Rp 18.000.
It is not like groceries that its price should be controlled by the government. The meat supply depends on the outside since Jakarta does not produce it
Head Section of Animal Husbandry for North Jakarta Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Maritime Sub-Department, Renova Ida Siahaan, said that the increasing commodity is caused by the increasing consumer demand. The increasing demand cannot be fulfilled by chicken producers. “The demand of chicken meat is very high, so it depends on the market’s demand,” said Siahaan, Monday (6/16).
Besides that, Ida assumed that the City Government does not have authority to control the meat and broiler chicken price since there is no chicken producer in North Jakarta, so they depend on outside supply.
Basic Needs Price in East Jakarta Begins to Increase“It is not like groceries that its price should be controlled by the government. The meat supply depends on the outside since Jakarta does not produce it,” told Ida.
There is a chicken meat promotion program namely Asuh (Aman, Sehat, Utuh dan Halal) or Hygiene, Healthy, Perfect and Halal held in Cilincing sub-district, Pademangan, and Penjaringan. The residents will get subsidy coupon for Rp 15,000/kg. It is targeted to sell 1,020 chickens during the program. "The program is aimed to suppres the price and help the residents," Ida added.
Tuminis (55), broiler chicken sellers in Rawa Badak Market, Koja, uttered that the selling is still stable even though many of her customers complained of the current high price of broiler chicken.
“It is still stable for me since I already have customers even though they often complain about the current price,” Tuminis commented.
