Trash Piling on Jalan Daan Mogot, Locals Complained
Reported by TP Moan Simanjuntak | Translated by Nugroho Adibrata
Suboptimal trash handling in West Jakarta makes trash piles easily seen in various locations. As a matter of fact, illegal dumpsite (TPS) is also found on protocol road like Jalan Daan Mogot, precisely at KM 16 on the lane from Cengkareng towards Kalideres. As a result, the area as wide as 150 meters becomes slum because the trash pile reaches one meter high.
In rainy season, water seepage from the trash spreads rotten smell. While during dry season, strong wind always blows plastic and paper trashes to the road and Mookervart River
This condition makes the road users as well as residents living in Kalideres Urban Village, Kalideres Sub-District, disturbed by the rotten smell and flies coming from the illegal TPS which has existed for more than a year. Ironically, a number of cleanliness officers routinely dump household trash in that location.

While during dry season, strong wind always blows plastic and paper trashes to the road and Mookervart River ,” complained Irwandi, a resident of RW 04 Kalideres, Friday (6/20).Residents Disturbed by Trash Piles on Jalan KS Tubun 3Responding the complaint, Head of Kalideres Sub-District, Zeri Ronazy, stated that his party has coordinated with West Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department to handle this matter.
“Cleanliness officers must pick up the trashes at 5 AM to prevent trash piles,” he asserted, although the reality is the trash transportation is conducted at 10 AM.
However, Ronazy admitted that Jalan Daan Mogot KM 16 is indeed temporarily used as TPS.
“The reason is because until now finding a land for TPS is difficult,” he said.
