Commission E Wants SLB to Be Expanded

Jakarta DPRD Commission E is asking Jakarta Education Dept. to improve the quality of education of disabled students by expanding extraordinary schools (SLB).

As a result, they have difficulties to find school. Thus they had to choose private schools

Sereida Tambunan, Member of Jakarta DPRD Commission E disclosed, there are many disabled students who drop out, because SLB location is too far.

"As a result, they have difficulties to find school. Thus they had to choose private schools," he expressed, Thursday (9/14).

According to her, SLB expansion in the city should be prioritized in the next budget.

"It aims to give them the same education. And facilities and educational materials must be equated as well," she requested.

Separately, Jakarta Education Dept. Head, Sopan Adrianto said he would follow up on the recommendation. His dept. also targets in each sub-district area will have at least one SLB.

All this time, he continued, another obstacle is the provision of teachers. Thus most students of SLB are taught by regular teachers.

"Therefore, we need the support of the council to draft the regulation that we need," she hoped.
