5 Markets in East Jakarta Clean from Borax and Formalin

East Jakarta Livestock and Fishery Sub-Department informed that five traditional markets in East Jakarta are clean from hazardous materials, such as borax and formalin. Those markets are Cibubur, Jatinegara, Rawamangun, Ujung Menteng, and Perumnas Klender.

We’ll do monitoring in traditional markets, starting from seven days before Ramadan until seven days after Eid ul Fitr. Our target is use of formalin, borax, chicken carcasses, and wild boar

Head of Supervision and Control Section for East Jakarta Livestock and Fishery Sub-Department, Sabdo Kurnianto, asserted that his sub-department will tightly oversee the markets, particularly in welcoming Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr, moments when fish and meat needs increase drastically.

We’ll do monitoring in traditional markets, starting from seven days before Ramadan until seven days after Eid ul Fitr. Our target is use of formalin, borax, chicken carcasses, and wild boar. To smooth the monitoring, we’ll involve the police, Satpol PP, and sub-district officers,” he stated, Monday (6/23).

Traditional Markets in N. Jakarta Clean from Formalin

According to Kurnianto, every month the Food and Drug Control Agency (POM) and market management would conduct raid simultaneously as well as socialized the public about hazardous drugs and their impacts on health.

“We also hope the traditional market traders to remain consistent in not selling meat or fish mixed with formalin. Hopefully their awareness would increase on the hazards caused by formalin,” he uttered.
