Chicken and Fish Meat in South Jakarta Formalin-Free

South Jakarta residents do not have to worry consuming chicken sold in that area since the South Jakarta Animal Husbandry and Fishery Sub-Dept. has guaranteed the chicken meat circulating in that area is free from harmful substances such as formalin.

According to Masud, his party has disseminated the danger of formalin using on chicken and fish meat to the sellers. Until this time, most of the sellers have understood it. “Some traders have understood and promised not to sell chicken and fish meat formalin,” said Masud.

Even so, the public are asked to remain careful when buying chicken and fish meat in markets. The residents need to know the characteristics of the chicken and fish meat that do not contain formalin. He explained that to select the fresh fish, its eyes are convex and clear, and when the gills is opened, it has dark red color.

"For shrimp, select the ones with the complete body, smelled fresh, and has bright color. Meanwhile the squid should be reddish around its eyes and has chewy texture,” explained Masud.

For chicken, the meat should look clean, and the outside layer is dry. “The meat and fat color is yellowish, the fat under the skin is all even and does not clot, smelled fresh, not fishy and acid. The texture is elastic, and if it pushed with finger, it will turn back,” stated Masud.

By knowing the fresh meat and unformulated, Masud hoped that the residents can consume healthy food and automatically lessen the rogue sellers. “If the residents know that the meat is not formalin and has formalin, they will not buy it. Automatically the sellers will bankrupt,” Masud completed.
