Jakarta KPU Targets 75 Percent Jakartans to Vote in Pilpres

Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) targets 75 percent of Jakartans listed in the fix voters list (DPT) to cast their votes in upcoming presidential election on July 9. To achieve the target, Jakarta KPU has done socializations to the residents through direct meetings as well as banners and leaflets installation.

We urge Jakartans to participate in presidential election and cast their votes

“That target is set after seeing Jakartans’ enthusiasts in democracy party this year. The number is higher than last legislative election on April 9. We’re optimistic at least 75 percent. But if could, hopefully 80 percent,” stated Head of Jakarta KPU, Sumarno, Saturday (7/5).

According to him, Jakartans are already critical and clever enough, so the number of people not voting (golput) could be pressed. Moreover, there are many aspects that affect Jakartans’ political behavior, including awareness to technological sophistication.

KPU Distributes Presidential Election Logistics

At this time, Jakarta KPU has spread invitations to cast vote to Jakartans who are listed in DPT. For those of you who have not got the invitations, please go and ask it to RT/RW chiefs and urban village officials.

As for logistics for the election, they are distributed simultaneously today to urban villages, and will be deployed to voting stations (TPS) a day before the election day. All logistics are inserted to voting boxes which then closed, padlocked, and sealed in front of polling committee (PPS), sub-district polling committee (PPK), and polling station working committee (KPPS). Especially for Seribu Islands, logistics distribution is conducted early considering its geographical location and weather condition.

Sumarno also informed that DPT amount in presidential election increases than in legislative election. The amount of DPT in last legislative election was 7,001,520 voters, while in upcoming presidential election there are 7,096,168 voters. With that, Jakartans are urged to use their voting rights as an effort to press cheating acts.

“We urge Jakartans to participate in presidential election and cast their votes,” he said.
