City to Be More Selective in Building Row Village

In order to prevent the case of row village construction being done on state land from happening again, as audit result of Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Buildings Management Department will be more selective in building row villages.

“There are 70 locations that we’re planning to build with row villages. But with correction from BPK, of course we’ll be more selective in the future,” stated Head of Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Buildings Management Department, Yonathan Pasodung, at City Hall, Monday (7/7).
According to Pasodung, the mayors are currently recollecting data of areas where row villages to be built. As for prioritized areas, they are slums and lands with certificates. While for row village which already finished built on state land, it will not be demolished.

Pasodung explained that the construction of row villages aims to improve the environment. At this time, row village has been built in 26 locations spread in five municipalities.
Meanwhile, Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama admitted does not have qualm on row village construction state land. Even if the location was not green belt or road trace, it will directly be given certificate.
“There is no problem with row village. For state land that is not green belt, we directly gave certificate. The law says if you have occupied a land for more than 15 years, then you have the right to own that land if no one claimed it,” he uttered.
