4.2 Million Jakartans Predicted to Go Homecoming

The amount of homecomers this year is predicted to reach 4,220,315 people, increasing 12 percent from last year when 3,778,761 people went back to their hometowns.

“We predict the amount of homecomers this year to increase 12 percent,” said Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, M Akbar, Tuesday (7/15).

For homecomers who would go hometown using private vehicles, their amount is predicted to reach 1,567,374 people, increase from last year which only 1,341,727 people. While for homecomers riding motorcycles, the number is predicted reaching 509,712 people.

Rawamangun Terminal Prepares 120 Buses to Serve Homecomers

According to Akbar, the prediction of public transport passengers starting Eid ul Fitr D-7 is 2,652,941 people. That amount consists of 1,535,328 airplane passengers, 556,114 train passengers, 409,967 inter-city inter-Province (AKAP) bus passengers, 118,678 free-homecoming program passengers, and 32,824 sea liner passengers.

“There are 8,318 AKAP buses provided and spread in 12 terminals to serve homecomers. This amount increases from last year where there were only 8,283 buses,” he stated.

Besides providing regular buses, Akbar told that his department also cooperates with autobus companies (PO). There are 2,389 regular AKAP buses in Jakarta and 5,454 buses outside Jakarta. The autobus companies provide assistance in form of 210 regular buses and 265 tourism buses.

The 12 terminals serving homecomers are Kampung Rambutan, Pulogadung, Kalideres, Rawamangun, Pinang Ranti, Tanjung Priok, Pasar Minggu, Muara Angke, Grogol, Tanah Merdeka, Rawa Buaya, and Pulogebang. In these terminals, as many as 246 joint personnel are put on standby to secure homecoming flows. In addition, Jakarta Transportation Department also sets up post in each terminal.
