Parking Haphazardly, Be Ready to Be Fined Rp 500 Thousand

The effort to remove illegal parking in the capital city keeps being conducted by Jakarta Provincial Government. After tire valves removal is assessed not good enough, Jakarta Transportation Department is going to apply maximum fine for towing vehicles to illegal parking actors.

“We will apply maximum fine of Rp 500,000 to illegal parking actors, so they would be wary. That (amount of fine) is not against the rule because retribution bylaw regulates that maximum fine is Rp 500 thousand,” stated Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, M Akbar, at City Hall, Wednesday (7/16).

According to Akbar, this towing fine is actually already implemented. However, the implementations is not optimal, concerning the fine charged. Moreover, the fine payment is done cash and handed out to treasurer, until finally deposited to regional treasury.

Parking Haphazardly, Fined to Rp 500 Thousand

In the future, Jakarta Transportation Department will apply non-cash towing retribution by transferring the fine to a special account for retribution collection. It is conducted to prevent tricks done by the officers.

“Later, violators only need to show their fine payment transfer slips as proofs they have paid the fine through DKI Bank. With that slip, they can get back their vehicles,” he explained.

Akbar also told that the vehicles parked illegally will be towed far from their initial parking locations. It is conducted to difficult the vehicle owners, so they would be wary and not park haphazardly anymore.

“The retribution depends on distance. With a particular distance, the retribution is also particular. And from what I understand is that there is maximum tariff. We’re currently preparing the mechanism,” he uttered.
