Areas Under Rail Train Overpasses to Be Controlled

Jakarta Provincial Government and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) after upcoming Eid ul Fitr are planning to sterilize the areas under rail train overpasses, which are slum and used as settlements by scavengers. The controlling is scheduled to be focused in Mangga Besar Station until Sawah Besar Station areas.

“I have a program to clean river inspection roads. Later, all rail train inspection (roads) will also be cleaned, including the areas under rail train overpasses. We’ll do it after Eid ul Fitr,” stated Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama, Wednesday (7/16).

According to Basuki, Jakarta Provincial Government will also use the sterilized areas for various purposes, including for street vendors.

“We’ll arrange it later, including the (areas) under toll roads. We’ll do that kind of concept,” he told.

Meanwhile, Head of Jakarta Spatial Department, Gamal Sinurat, explained that the work to improve the quality of areas under rail train overpasses will be done as soon as possible. It is planned that those locations will be transformed into parks, recreational facilities, and sports spaces.

“Now those areas are chaotic since there are many scavengers. PT KAI is tired, had controlled and fenced the areas, but scavengers still exist,” he said.

However, Sinurat cannot confirm yet when the exact date of the plan to be executed.

“As soon as possible, it is being discussed by Spatial Deputy. Later there will be task divisions, Jakarta Provincial Government does this, PT KAI does that, in accordance to respective authority. The control will be finaned by the City Budget (APBD). We’re still drafting the agreement,” he uttered.
