Sandi: MRT will Be More Cost-effective Transport

Jakarta Deputy Governor, Sandiaga Uno, projected the operation of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) will be able to save the cost of transportation of citizens.

MRT is targeted to be able to reduce transportation costs by 15 percent

Currently, the lower-middle class people allocate about 30 percent of their income for transportation purposes.

"MRT is targeted to be able to reduce transportation costs by 15 percent," he expressed, when he closed the workshop panel discussion and focus group discussion (FGD) on the updating of the 2014-2030 Company’s Long Term Plan (RJPP) and 2018-2023 Company's Medium Term Plan (RJMP) of PT MRT Jakarta, in one of hotels, Central Jakarta, Monday (5/14).

According to him, it is the backbone of transportation in Jakarta, either in terms of integrating inter-mode or public policy in the field of transportation.

"You are the main show. All other transportation modes support, integration linkage will become very important," he stated.

He added its operational would give a multiplier effect such as, increased mobility, improved air quality, and the opening of new jobs.

"Our hope today it can provide 7,500 jobs," he said.
