27 Buses in Pulogadung Terminal Unworthy to Operate

As many as 27 buses are declared unworthy to operate in vehicle worthiness test (KIR) held by Jakarta Transportation Department Motor Vehicles Testing (PKB) Unit in Pulogadung Terminal, East Jakarta, Monday (7/21). From that amount, two buses are prohibited to transport passengers in this homecoming season. Those buses are Laju Utama B 7333 WP (Jakarta-Sukabumi), which KIR expiry date expired since two months ago, and Kemenangan K 1688 DD (Jakarta-Madura), which windows are broken.

We’re only checking the buses. The result is up to Pulogadung Terminal Head to give recommendation on whether the bus worthy to transport homecomers or not

In the test, there were 37 buses tested, 10 good for operation, and 27 are unworthy to operate. But from those 27 buses, Terminal Pulogadung only recommends to buses to be prohibited to operate and transport homecomers. The rest are still allowed to operate as long as they repair the damages first.

“The damages of those 27 buses include broken wheel bolts, not enough wheel nuts, wipers gone, headlights off, porous body, and dead turn signal lights. We’re only checking the buses. The result is up to Pulogadung Terminal Head to give recommendation on whether the bus worthy to transport homecomers or not,” said PKB officer, Cintoko Fajar.

The KIR test is conducted round the clock every day seven days prior to Eid ul Fitr (d-7) until seven days afterwards (D+7). There are two shifts in this test, namely 8 AM-8 PM as first shift and second shift is 8 PM-8 AM. For buses which have been tested, their tires will be painted white using pylox. As for buses that pass the test, they will be patched with stickers saying the 2014 Eid ul Fitr Worthy Transportation.

Head of Pulogadung Terminal, Muhammad Arafat, stated that the buses that do not pass KIR test and unworthy to operate will certainly be removed from the terminal and not allowed to enter departure lanes. However, his party still gives tolerance for those buses as long as their damages not fatal and be repaired right away.

“We still give tolerance to, for instance, buses that yet have light fire extinguishers, glass-breaking tools, and lack of wipers. All those deficiencies must be immediately fulfilled or repaired before transporting homecomers,” he asserted.
