Jakarta Transportation Department plans to hand over terminals’ management to third party to create professional system that impacts on the comfort and beauty of public transport terminals in the capital city. The plan is currently still being discussed and will be presented to Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo.
We’re currently preparing the mechanism to be reported to the governor. Our goal is to create comfortable terminals
Jakarta Transportation Department Head, Muhammad Akbar, admitted the entire terminal’s management, such as cleaning, building maintenance, electrical, security, et cetera, will be handed over to a third party. So, his department can be more focused on regulating traffic flows and bus condition.
PT Transjakarta to Manage Public Transport in Jakarta“
We’re currently preparing the mechanism to be reported to the governor. Our goal is to create comfortable terminals ,” he stated, Wednesday (5/28).According to Akbar, the third party can establish a business in the terminal as long as the terminal remains comfortable for the passengers.
“We provide compensation to terminal managers to do business there. But, they should maintain cleanliness and not disturb the passengers’ activities,” he said.
Moreover, Akbar explained that his department plans this matter because of the increasing number of public transport terminals shifting into inter-city inter-province (AKAP) bus terminals. As a result, Jakarta Transportation Department becomes overwhelmed in managing the terminals. In Jakarta, there are only three terminals serve as AKAP bus terminals, namely Kalideres, Kampung Rambutan, and Pulogadung.
Additionally, the buildup of AKAP buses in AKAP bus terminals also causes bus companies enter the intercity terminals. Another reason why people prefer to ride AKAP bus from intercity terminal is because the access between AKAP terminal and intercity terminal is close, coupled with the toll road construction that makes the distance closer.
“An example of intercity terminal that changes function into AKAP bus terminal is the Rawamangun Terminal, East Jakarta. This is because the buses and passengers in Pulogadung Terminal are overloaded,” he uttered Akbar.
