Ciliwung River Overflows, Kampung Pulo Inundated

Flood water from Bogor, West Java, flooded densely populated settlement in Kampung Pulo, Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-District, East Jakarta, after Ciliwung River overflows. It happened at 3 AM, Tuesday (8/5). Until 10 AM, water level has reached 1.5 meters high. Even so, the locals prefer to stay in the attics of their homes.

Water level is between 20-150 centimeters. Thus far, no residents are evacuating. But if needed, we have set up a refugee camp

Nurdin (50), a resident of RT 04/03 Kampung Pulo, said on Monday (8/4) afternoon the residents have been informed that Bogor was on heavy rain and flood was coming.

“After hearing the information, the locals were immediately evacuating their valuables to the attics of their homes. Meanwhile, their motorcycles are parked on the side of Jalan Jatinegara Barat Raya and alleys that are free from flood,” he uttered.

Flood inundates Hundreds of Houses

Head of Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Bambang Pangestu, informed that the flood inundates 1,200 homes located in 7 RWs and 47 RTs with 1,508 households or 3,427 people.

“Water level is between 20-150 centimeters. Thus far, no residents are evacuating. But if needed, we have set up a refugee camp,” he stated.

Due to this condition, the residents who want to go outside their settlement had to use rubber boats provided by the urban village party.
